A Gradual Progression
The clear Invisalign aligners work by moving teeth into their new positions in each weekly aligner change. They are clear, and therefore much more discreet than braces, there are no food restrictions while doing Invisalign treatment. We do, however, recommend you remove them for eating and drinking anything aside from water. Conditions That Likely Won’t Work for Invisalign
If you have serious gum disease or decay, you will not be a good candidate for Invisalign treatment or orthodontic treatment until those conditions are addressed and a dental provider believes that your teeth and bone are stable enough for tooth movement.
The Step-By-Step Process
When you contact Swan Orthodontics to start your Invisalign correction, the first step will include a consultation. We offer virtual consultations, during this visit we can let you know treatment, time, cost and treatment plan. If you are interested in pursuing treatment, then we will schedule you a visit in our practice to Meet Dr. Kathryn Swan. At this visit, we will take a 3D image of your teeth, photos, and a digital scan. We will then discuss your custom treatment plan and can even show you a simulation of what your result may be.
Once you sign up for treatment, we send the 3D image to Invisalign, and work back and forth with their clinicians to formulate your custom treatment plan. With aligners, you can still have elastics to do bite correction, and we will also put some clear tooth colored attachments to move your teeth in the correct direction.
You will switch your aligners out weekly, each weeks aligners will have slightly different tooth movement programed into it, so at the start of the week it will feel snug, and by the end of the week, your teeth should be resting in them comfortably. Each person has a custom number of aligners in their sets, depending on the complexity of your case.
